I thought those overnight bus rides were just for broke students
I mean, I avoided them for years because I figured it would be a terrible night's sleep and not worth it. Then I had to get from Berlin to Copenhagen last fall and the train was crazy expensive, like over 150 euros. The overnight bus was 29 euros and got me there at 7am. I packed a neck pillow and earplugs, slept okay, and saved a whole night on a hostel. Waking up in a new city with the whole day ahead felt like a win. Has anyone else found a specific route where this hack really paid off?

Took the overnight bus from Paris to Amsterdam and saved a fortune on a hotel.

That Flixbus route is a classic move. I did it once and got maybe two hours of broken sleep the whole night. The money saved is real but you pay for it in back pain and weird bus station energy at 3am. Honestly I'd rather pay extra for a train ticket next time.

But have you ever actually tried to sleep on a train? It's not that much better. You still get that weird half awake feeling and your neck hurts just as bad. The money you save on the bus is real cash for more fun stuff on the trip. Those weird 3am stops become stories you tell later. Honestly, the bus feels more like an adventure.
