Pro tip: My simple method for aligning pages when binding

I mark the text block with a pencil line before cutting, and it keeps everything straight.

For years, I just eyeballed the cuts and hoped for the best. It always led to slightly off pages, especially with thick stacks. Trying your pencil trick was a game changer, marking the block first gives a clear guide. Last week, I bound a journal, and the pages lined up perfectly for the first time. Now I won't bind anything without that initial line.

Actually @leo_fisher a utility knife marks that guide line even cleaner than a pencil.

Eyeballed it and hoped for the best" is just a fancy way of saying you were winging it (we've all been there). Glad you finally found a method that doesn't rely on pure luck.
