Paid $80 for a 'reclaimed' anvil that turned out to be a cast iron junker with a welded faceplate
Took me two hours with a file to realize the face was just hardfacing rod slapped over a rusty chunk of metal, has anyone else gotten burned by those online anvil listings?

Got burned by a "vintage" anvil on eBay myself. Straight junk.

Yeah I thought I was getting a deal on a "pre-loved" anvil from a guy who swore it was only dropped once. Turns out it was dropped off a cliff. The face was so chipped it looked like a topographic map. I could have turned it into some kind of modern art sculpture but I needed a thing to hit metal on. Now I just use it as a doorstop and a constant reminder that I'm terrible at buying things on the internet.

Used to think an anvil was just an anvil. Hard to mess up a big chunk of steel. Then I saw a guy online trying to sell one with a chunk missing the size of my fist. Said it was "character." Yeah, no. That changed my mind real fast. Now I'm paranoid about every crack and chip on anything heavy I buy.
