Why does nobody talk about the thumb trick for blending a hard part?

I was butchering fades trying to get that line crisp with my clipper over comb. Saw an old barber in Miami just use his thumb as a guide against the head, and the blend was perfect in one pass. What other simple tricks are people gatekeeping?

My cousin tried to teach me that thumb move in his garage. I ended up with a haircut that looked like a topographical map of the Rockies.

Yeah that thumb trick is a game changer... honestly half the job is just knowing where to put your off hand. I've seen guys use a comb backwards too, flat side against the head for the same kind of guide.

@milacraig I get the thumb trick, but it never clicked for me. My off hand just gets in the way. I find a light touch with just the clippers works better for keeping my lines straight.
