My chocolate chip cookies came out flat as pancakes yesterday
I was making a double batch for my kid's school thing and had to choose between using cold butter straight from the fridge or letting it soften on the counter for an hour. I went with cold, thinking it would help them hold shape, but they just melted into one giant, thin sheet on the pan. Has anyone else had this happen and found a good fix?

Ugh, cold butter is the worst for cookies.

I mean, I always use cold butter and mine turn out fine. Maybe your oven runs hot or something?

Cold butter needs more flour to absorb the extra moisture, otherwise it just melts out. Try chilling the dough balls for 30 minutes before baking too.
