The day a hornets nest fell on me in Greenville
I was trimming a huge dead limb off a silver maple last Thursday in Greenville. About halfway through my cut, a whole hornets nest the size of a basketball came crashing down with the branch and landed right at my feet. I froze for a second then sprinted down the street while they got all over my shirt. Has anyone else had a close call like that with pests hiding in a tree?

People act like getting stung a few times is life or death. You ran off and lived to tell the tale, right? I've been stung by yellow jackets twice and it wasn't that bad, just some swelling and itching for a day. Unless you're allergic, sounds like a good story more than anything else.

Did you catch that article in the local paper about the guy who got stung over 200 times by a nest he accidentally stepped on? He ended up in the hospital for two days, and he wasn't even allergic, just a normal person like you or me. I think it really depends on the situation and how many times you get hit. A few stings are one thing, but when you're dealing with a whole swarm, it's a whole different ballgame. Plus, you never know if you might suddenly develop an allergy the next time around, so I'd rather play it safe.

@jamie770 says that now, just wait till he steps on the wrong nest and gets a free helicopter ride (and a hospital bill).
