Oh man, that's like skipping the lock on your front door because the handle was pricey. I once tried to be clever and save a few bucks on a DIY project, ended up with a shelf that collapsed if you looked at it funny. Some things you just don't skip, or you're basically paying for a fancy alarm that politely asks the burglar to come in.

I showed them how a single weak point ruins everything. Explaining the risk usually gets them on board.
