Signs can glitch, especially old ones. @the_anthony's gas station thing sounds like a display error too. Your brain might have filled in the 'Open' part because you expected it. Probably just a mix of tired eyes and a faulty sign.

Did you try to think back to where you last had it? @allen.aaron's story got me to put a notepad by the fridge for these glitches, and it helps.

Check the heat tools they use at home, I've seen flat irons melt the cuticle and dump color in four days flat.
