Observing a preference for barefoot flows on natural surfaces... it's making me consider the environmental cost of manufactured gear.

Stubbed toes are the least of it. Barefoot walking teaches patience, awareness. Gear manufactures a need where none exists. The real cost is forgetting how to feel the land. Once that connection goes, so does the urge to preserve it.

Huh. I always figured it was just about comfort. But @harper_lee has a point about losing the feeling for the ground under you. Makes you pay attention in a different way.

Less manufacturing, fewer problems. Unless you count stubbed toes as a problem.

Maybe it's just me but my cousin's barefoot phase ended with a bee sting, idk.
