Struggling to discern fact from fiction in true crime podcasts after a misleading episode

In my experience, it's easy to get swept up in compelling narratives, so I'd appreciate any strategies you use to verify information before accepting it as credible.

Ugh, tell me about it. These shows often prioritize drama over due diligence, blurring lines with speculation. I've started pausing every major claim to cross-reference with court documents or local reporting.

That last Netflix documentary treated facts like they were just set dressing for the narrator's wild theories.

Hold up, are we watching documentaries or studying for a law degree? Pausing to read court papers sounds like a full time job. Sometimes a show is just a show, you know? Shane587 has a point about the wild theories, but getting that deep into fact checking sucks all the fun out of it. If it gets me interested, I'll maybe look up the basics later, but I'm not doing homework for Netflix.

Cross-referencing with court documents sounds thorough, but what if local reporting contradicts them?
