A chunk of limestone I left in a vinegar bath for 48 hours completely dissolved. It was just a test piece from a creek bed near my house.

Honestly, that's a great way to see how acidic rain works on stone. I tried a similar test once but got impatient and checked it after like two hours. My rock just looked a little sad and wet, like I'd hurt its feelings. Your 48-hour soak really shows what a steady, weak acid can do. Makes you look at old statues and buildings in a whole new, slightly worrying light. Nature's chemistry is no joke.

Wow, how acidic was your test solution?

Remember that question from @beth_reed about the acid strength? A friend of mine tried this with a weaker acid and her rock just got pitted, not gone. It really shows how the type of acid and the time matter. Makes you wonder about all the old stonework outside.
