My neighbor's trick for getting her shy kid to wave back
She started waving from our porch with a specific, bright yellow gardening glove on her hand. The kid started looking for it and waving back after about a week. Anyone have other gentle ways to help a little one get comfortable with neighbors?

Is a kid not waving really that big of a deal?

Right? @fiona985 it's totally not a big deal. My nephew just stares blankly sometimes when I leave, zero wave. Kids get distracted or are just in their own little world. People read way too much into tiny things that mean nothing. It's not like the kid is trying to be rude, they just aren't thinking about it. Making a fuss over it says more about the adult being insecure than the kid being bad.

Seriously, it's wild. Adults project all their weird social rules onto little kids who are just figuring out the world. The kid is probably thinking about a bug they saw or their snack, not some goodbye etiquette. Getting upset about it is just looking for a reason to be offended. Let kids be kids.
