My dad told me to always carry a 20 dollar bill in my shoe for emergencies, and I laughed at him until 1999.

I was 17, he handed me a crisp 20 and made me tape it inside my sneaker. Two years later I was stranded in Des Moines after a bus broke down with no ATM in sight. That 20 got me a burger and a payphone call. Anyone else have a piece of advice they ignored for years until it saved them?
