I picked restoring old fountain pens over collecting vintage watches and it's way more satisfying

Everyone said watches were a better investment, but I get to actually use the pens I fix, like this 1940s Parker 51 I got working last week. Anyone else think the 'hands on' part of a hobby is more important than its resale value?

Didn't a watch collector say the ticking is just a clock you can't fix?

But is it really that deep? It's just fixing pens, not saving lives. Some people just like to watch their money grow.

Totally agree with you. A hobby should be about the fun of doing it, not just making money later. Getting something to work again is its own reward.
