Rant: Estate agent laughed when I said my max budget was 180k

Went to see a two bed terrace in Birmingham last Saturday. The agent actually snorted and said "good luck finding anything livable for that" right in front of me. I know prices are stupid, but I'm not asking for a mansion, just somewhere dry that doesn't have mold. Has anyone else had an agent just rip into your budget like that?

Pretty sure that agent spends his weekends driving around in a leased BMW he can't actually afford. I get being realistic about the market @robinf51, but a snort and a laugh is just disrespectful.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet honestly. Estate agents can be snobs, but a laugh is just them being unprofessional, not the final word on what's out there. Did you check online listings before going in?

Oh man, @robinf51 is spot on about the bullet-dodging. I once walked into an open house and the agent asked if I had left my "chauffeur" outside - no joke, my bus pass was sticking out of my pocket.

Found a better deal three streets over just by checking Zillow myself.
