Back in 2018 I thought crypto was just a scam for nerds
A friend in Portland kept talking about his Bitcoin mining rig and I rolled my eyes. What convinced me was watching how quickly my local coffee shop started accepting it for payments last year. Anyone else have a financial trend they dismissed too early?

It's the same with stuff like sourdough baking or fixing your own bike. People see the hardcore fans and decide the whole thing is a club they don't want to join. Then later, when they realize the actual skill is useful, they have to play catch up. It's a shame to miss out on a good thing just because the early adopters seemed too intense.

Yeah, I also thought it was just for nerds. Now I'm the nerd who missed out.

Just for nerds" is the kind of line that stops people from trying so much cool stuff. I see it all the time, not just with hobbies but with basic life skills too. People write something off because of who they think likes it, and then ten years later they're kicking themselves. It's a weird trap to avoid things that seem too into it at first.
