Rant: That one Tuesday where the ground was all rock and my auger bit snapped

I had this job out in Henderson last week, supposed to be a simple 200ft chain link run. Ground was fine the first 50ft, then I hit a buried slab of limestone or something. My auger bit twisted clean in half. Took me 3 hours to dig the rest by hand with a digging bar. Client came out and asked why it was taking so long, like I was just slacking off. Has anyone else had a day where the ground just fought you back and nothing went right?

My auger bit snapped once and I just stood there swearing at a rock.

Tell you what, @dixon.iris is right. You can't blame the rock for something you did by putting the bit where it didn't belong. I've hit enough rocks with an auger to know the real issue is just impatience. You get in a hurry and don't check what's under the dirt first. A bit snapping is almost always on the operator, not the ground. Rocks don't move, but your technique can always improve.

Yeah but the rock didn't snap your bit, you did when you hit it.
