I finally tried that 5-minute journal thing my friend kept pushing

I was sure it was just another self-help fad, but after doing it every morning for a month, I noticed I stopped dreading my commute to the office. It's just writing down three things you're looking forward to, but it actually shifts your focus for the whole day. Has anyone else had a simple routine completely flip a bad habit?

Honestly that's so interesting because it's basically training your brain to scan for positive stuff first. Maybe the bad habit wasn't the commute itself, but the automatic negative thoughts about it.

But that sounds like ignoring real problems.

Is it possible that shifting focus is just a temporary fix though? I get what @faith_thomas is saying about training your brain, but sometimes dreading a commute means your job itself is the real problem. Positive thinking is great and all, but it shouldn't be a substitute for actually addressing something that makes you miserable.
