TIL some people don't know flux isn't optional for soldering
Had a guy bring in a board last Friday where he just melted solder blobs on top of the pads, no flux at all. The joints looked like cold oatmeal and he wondered why nothing worked. Anyone else run into people skipping basics like this?

Oh man, I used to totally think flux was just extra hassle for fancy builds. Then I tried a simple joint without it and watched the solder ball up like a angry puddle. Yeah, never again.

Right there with you @kim_johnson51. My first few soldering jobs looked like a kindergartner glued some melted crayons on a board and it was 100% because I thought flux was optional.
