TIL a senior drafter at a conference said they still use a 0.5mm mechanical pencil for initial concept sketches.
I mean, I've been all digital for years, but hearing that made me wonder if I'm missing out on something with the tactile feel for brainstorming, so has anyone else stuck with a physical pencil for the first pass?

Tactile feel for brainstorming" sounds like an excuse for my bad handwriting.

Honestly that "tactile feel" thing is everywhere now. Tbh people use fancy words to make simple stuff sound deep, like calling a messy desk a "creative ecosystem.

My old drafting professor swore by 0.5mm lead for control, said it forced cleaner lines. I get what phoenixb34 is saying about bad handwriting, but for me the scratch of graphite helps ideas flow differently than a smooth tablet. It's less about being fancy and more about the physical act slowing my brain down just enough. I still do quick napkin sketches with a regular pencil before I ever open a design file.
