Taking my time on a roof detail prevented a client headache
I was drawing a complicated roof section for a renovation project. Slowing down to measure each angle twice found a mismatch in the plans. How do you deal with the urge to speed through tedious parts?

Yup, slow is fast. That extra minute measuring saves an hour fixing it later. I just put on music and grind it out.

My trick for roof details is to break it into ten minute blocks. I'll measure one rafter or valley, then get up and walk for two minutes. The short break keeps my eyes fresh and actually saves time by avoiding a big rework later.

Read somewhere that 'measure twice, cut once' is cliche because it's painfully true. Who has time to redo a whole detail because you rushed?
