My granddad's weird tip about painting trim FIRST actually saved me a ton of work
He always said "prime and paint the trim before you cut and install it" which sounded backwards but I tried it on a 1960s ranch house in Denver last summer and it cut my finish time by like half. Anyone else ever get handed old-school advice that turned out to be genius?

Man, I used to be one of those people who thought you had to install everything first and then paint. Totally figured painting trim before cutting was just asking for chipped edges and scratched finish. But I tried it on a similar old house here in Ohio and yeah, it really does change the whole flow. Pre-painting means you're not hunched over trying to get a brush into corners or worrying about drips on the wall. Plus you can really lay the paint on thick and flat without any fuss. Might be the most practical tip I ever ignored for way too long.

Yeah, unlearning your own bad advice is the real renovation.
