Tried a 'work from a beach' day in Bali and it was a total disaster
I saw all these perfect pictures online and figured, why not? Set up my laptop at a cafe right on Seminyak beach yesterday morning. Paid for their premium Wi-Fi, about $15 for the day. An hour in, the glare on my screen was so bad I could barely see my spreadsheet. Then the connection dropped every five minutes during a crucial video call, my boss's face freezing into a weird pixelated frown. Sand got everywhere, even inside my keyboard. I spent more time wiping my gear down and reconnecting than actually working. Learned that some digital nomad fantasies are just that, fantasies. What's a spot that actually worked for you guys to get real work done near a beach, without the hassle?

Oh man, that sounds so rough. I felt that pixelated boss frown in my soul. I had a similar meltdown in Mexico last year. For me, the only beach-adjacent spot that ever worked was a library in a small coastal town, one street back from the water. It was quiet, had solid AC, and the wifi was shockingly good. Maybe the trick is to avoid being right on the sand?

The library trick is solid. I had a good setup in a cafe in Lisbon that was three blocks from the main beach. The signal was strong, the coffee was cheap, and the sand never got in my keyboard. @jana_hart18 is right about avoiding the actual sand. That one street back makes all the difference for finding a quiet corner and a stable connection. I always look for a place with blinds now, too. The glare off the water can make screen sharing a real problem.

Blinds are a total game changer for glare.
