Found a weird fix for slow WiFi in hostels after 3 months of frustration

I was staying at Selina Medellin and every evening the internet would crawl to like 2 Mbps, making work impossible. Tried switching rooms, using a VPN, even bought a travel router but nothing helped until I plugged my laptop directly into the ethernet port behind the TV stand. Has anyone else found random hardware hacks that actually work better than all the software fixes?

Funny how we spend money on all this fancy tech and the real fix is just... plugging it in like its 2002. I had a similar thing at a hostel in Barcelona where the wifi would crap out every night around 9pm. Tried everything, even stood on a chair holding my laptop over my head like a dumbbell. Finally noticed the ethernet port behind the mini fridge and boom, full speed. All those software gurus selling their VPNs and router hacks probably just need to look behind the furniture.
