Rant: My tablet pen died right before a big client review

Last Thursday, I was putting the final touches on a character design for a client in Austin, and my Wacom pen just stopped working. I had about 45 minutes before the Zoom call. I panicked, but then remembered an old trick: I restarted the driver service on my PC, not just the tablet software. It took three tries, but the pen came back online just in time. I was sweating the whole call. Has anyone else had a close call like that with hardware failing at the worst moment?

My old laptop's fan died during a heatwave, right before a final project export.

That's rough timing for sure. I've seen laptops overheat without fans, but they usually throttle performance way down before shutting off. Could you have finished the export by propping it up for airflow and maybe pointing a desk fan at it?

Actually, @ray136 is right about the throttling.
