Lost my stylus midway through a 6 hour piece and had to adapt
I was at a coffee shop downtown last Tuesday, 6 hours deep into a digital portrait. My stylus literally just stopped working, battery dead, and I forgot my charger at home. I ended up using my finger on the tablet for the last 2 hours, blending and shading with just my thumb. It came out surprisingly decent, even got a few compliments on the texture. Anyone else ever had to finish a piece with no proper tools?

Adapted" is right. Sometimes a finger gives you a rawer, better result than all the fancy tools anyway.

Totally get this. Sometimes the most instinctive approach cuts straight to what you're trying to say without overthinking it. Fingers let you feel the texture and pressure in a way a brush or stylus just can't match. It's like the difference between handwriting a letter and typing one out - the raw version just hits different.

Man I gotta be REAL honest here. I used to think fancy brushes and styluses were the ONLY way to get good results. I was that guy, you know? Always buying the latest digital pen thinking it would magically fix my bad drawings. But after reading your post and trying it out, I totally see what you mean. There's something about using your bare finger that just FEELS more connected to what you're making. It's like cutting out the middleman between your brain and the screen. I was wrong about this for a long time and I'm glad I finally gave it a real chance.
