Vent: That neighbor who waters their driveway for 20 minutes every morning

My neighbor across the street in Tucson has stood there with a hose watering his concrete driveway at 7 AM sharp for the last two months, and I wanted to know if anyone else has a neighbor doing something so pointless that it makes you grind your teeth just watching from your kitchen window?

Stop being so dramatic, that man is probably saving the birds and squirrels in the desert heat, the concrete soaks up the sun like crazy and a little water helps cool the whole street down. Think about it, a hot driveway turns your whole yard into a pizza oven and he's just trying to keep the air temp bearable for everyone who has to walk past his house. If you ask me, gentle hosing beats the alternative of him blasting the pavement with a pressure washer every weekend.

Hear hear Wendy, you're spot on. I swear people forget that pavement turns into a fryin pan for little critters, seen a pigeon once hop across a parking lot and vape into steam practically. Plus if he's just giving it a light mist instead of a flood, that's way better than letting the whole block bake. My own driveway gets so hot in July I can't even walk on it barefoot, so a little water probably makes a world of difference for anyone with paws or tiny feet.

Honestly, your story about the pigeon basically turning into steam really stuck with me. I used to be one of those people who'd side-eye someone watering their driveway, thinking it was wasteful or weird, but I never thought about the ground actually cooking little animals. My own patio is unbearable in the afternoon, so you're right, if that mist gives any relief to paws or tiny feet, then he's doing a solid thing for the neighborhood. Helps put things in perspective when you picture how hot the blacktop actually gets.
