The day I realized I'd been loading the dishwasher wrong for 7 years...
I was over at my sister's place last Thursday and she pointed out my spoons were all facing up in the basket. She said 'you're trapping all the gunk on them, flip them down next time.' I've been doing it backwards since I moved out at 19. Has anyone else had a basic life skill moment that late in the game?

the emery hit it exactly, it's crazy how we just go through life assuming we're doing stuff right until someone casually drops the truth on you. Makes you wonder what other basic stuff we're all messing up without even knowing.

My aunt had to tell me at 30 that you're supposed to wipe down the microwave door after each use, not just when it gets nasty. It's wild how many of these little things just never come up until someone casually drops the knowledge on you.

Oh wow, @the_emery, I gotta push back a little though. You're not wrong that it's good practice to wipe it down regularly, but "after each use" feels a bit overkill unless you're reheating spaghetti that explodes every time. The real secret is to wipe it down BEFORE you use it if it's dirty, not necessarily after. That way you're not just cooking yesterday's splatter into today's soup. And honestly, a microwave door that gets wiped down once a week is still winning compared to most people I know.
