The great coffee pod experiment that cost me $45 and taught me nothing

I got suckered into buying one of those fancy single-serve coffee machines last month. $80 for the machine, then another $45 on variety packs of pods. Everyone online was raving about how much better it tastes than drip coffee. After two weeks of watery, weak cups that cost about a dollar each, I went back to my $20 Mr. Coffee. The pods are sitting in my pantry mocking me. Has anyone else fallen for a kitchen gadget that just didn't deliver?

Actually read a study recently that said those pods actually make weaker coffee than drip brewers because the water doesn't sit with the grounds long enough to extract flavor. The variety packs are such a scam too, most of them taste exactly the same just with different names. You're honestly better off sticking with the Mr. Coffee and saving yourself the money and cabinet space.

Hold on, did that study say anything about the water temp in those machines? Because I feel like even if the time is short, if the water is hotter it might extract faster. Also, do you remember if they tested different brands of pods? Wondering if the cheaper ones are the main culprit for the weak coffee problem.

120 degrees is the sweet spot for my Mr. Coffee, and I only know that because I accidentally burned my tongue so many times figuring it out. Honestly, I've probably spent more on coffee gadgets than I have on actual coffee beans trying to chase that perfect cup. Maybe I should just admit I'm the weak link, not the machine.
