The old oak tree at the park finally gave up last winter
I used to take my rescue mutt past this massive oak on Maple Street for 8 years, it had a hollow trunk where he'd stick his whole head in sniffing for squirrels. Then a big storm in February brought it down, and now there's just a stump and a pile of mulch where that whole daily ritual used to happen. Has anyone else had a landmark on your dog's walk disappear and feel like you lost a little piece of your routine?

That "gotta be honest here" bit reminded me of when my buddy's parrot stopped saying his catchphrase after we moved his perch lol.

Gotta be honest here, a tree fell down. That's a bummer for sure but is it really that deep? Your dog will find another tree to sniff at. Dogs are pretty flexible about that stuff, they don't get attached to landmarks the way we do. Seems like you're more upset about losing your own little moment of peace than the tree itself. Maybe just pick a different bush or signpost on the walk and start a new habit.

Know exactly what you mean. My cat used to sit on this one specific rock in the backyard every morning until it got moved for a new fence. Now she just sits on the patio table instead if that tells you anything.
