Tossed $25 at a noise-cancelling earplug set for the subway, total game changer
I used to think earplugs were for wimps, but after three weeks of the 6am express line with a guy who breathes like a broken accordion, I caved and bought some Loop ones. First ride home yesterday and I actually felt my shoulders drop, so now I'm curious if anyone else has a cheap commute fix they swore was stupid until they tried it?

Wait, you mean the squishy foam ones or the moldable silicone kind? I used to think any earplug was overkill too, but after one ride with a guy eating chips like a woodchipper, I get it now... total mindset shift.

The Loops are the silicone ones, the ones with the little circular bit that sits in your ear. Made the switch after a dude on the 4 train was playing his phone speaker and I realized my eardrums were worth the $25. For the breathing guy, I'd say pair the earplugs with your hoodie strings pulled tight, that cuts the noise from behind you. Also, fake reading a book on your phone makes people shift seats faster than anything. Just don't wear them on the platform, you'll miss the train announcements and end up waiting an extra ten minutes like I did.
