Appreciation post: A CISO in Denver told me to stop using the word 'solution'

He said 'Call it what it is, a tool for patching or a service for monitoring, because 'solution' makes everyone tune out.' Has anyone else gotten pushback on specific marketing words?

My old boss banned the word "synergy" in all our sales decks.

I read somewhere that a study actually tracked which buzzwords made clients tune out the fastest, and "synergy" was near the top along with "leverage" and "circle back." Your old boss might have been onto something, because I've noticed meetings get way more productive when people just say what they mean instead of reaching for these corporate crutch words. Did the ban actually change how your team talked in those decks?

Didn't a tech blog call "solution" the most empty word in marketing last year?
