My vintage comic book collection almost got destroyed by a tiny leak

Three years ago, I moved my collection into a basement room in my Portland house. Last month, I noticed a small water spot on the ceiling but ignored it. Last week, that spot gave way and dripped right onto a short box holding my early Spider-Man issues. I caught it just in time, but the bottom of the box was already damp. Has anyone else had a close call with water damage, and what's your setup to prevent it?

Honestly that sounds like a pretty minor scare lol. A damp box bottom is a long way from actual water damage on the books themselves. Basements are risky for storage anyway, everyone knows that. Maybe just get some plastic bins and call it a day, seems like an easy fix.
