Finally found the 7th rune stone from my grandpa's set after 6 months of searching

I inherited a set of 8 carved rune stones from my grandpa a few years back and somehow lost one during a move. Turned my whole apartment upside down, checked every box twice, even dug through the dumpster outside. Found it wedged behind a loose board in the closet last Saturday. Has anyone else spent way too long looking for a single piece of a collection?

Wow, I used to think people who lost stuff like that were just not looking hard enough. I figured if something was important you'd find it fast because you'd be super thorough the first time. But reading through this whole thread changed my mind completely. I had this happen with a keychain my daughter made me, searched the whole house for two weeks straight and it was in a cereal box in the back of the pantry the whole time. Now I get why people take breaks and try different methods instead of just tearing everything apart.

Man that's brutal. Happened to me with a vintage video game cartridge from my uncle's collection, took me like four months to find it under a couch cushion that had a zipper on the wrong side. The trick that finally worked was going room by room with a flashlight and moving everything piece by piece instead of just looking in obvious spots. Also helped to take a break for a few days and come back with fresh eyes, sometimes you miss stuff when you're too focused on finding it. Feels so good when you finally get that win though, congrats on tracking yours down.

Wait that couch cushion had a zipper on the wrong side? @clark.alex, are you sure it wasn't just a pillowcase?

Oh man, that's such a relief! I totally get the whole tearing-your-hair-out thing... lost my favorite earring for like 8 months and found it in a jacket pocket I'd checked three times already. @clark.alex is right too, taking a break really does help, I was so worked up I couldn't see straight.
