Three trips to IKEA before my reading corner finally clicked

I spent an entire Saturday wrestling with a floor lamp that kept casting a glare right on my page. Turns out the shade was too short and the bulb was too bright, so I swapped it for a 40 watt and aimed it at the wall instead. That helped a bit, but then the cord snaked across the walkway and I tripped twice. I bought a little cable sleeve and routed it along the baseboard, which took another hour because the adhesive wouldn't stick on the first try. By the time I sat down with my tea, I realized the whole setup needed a rug to stop the echo in my apartment. I measured wrong, went back for a 5 by 7, and now the corner feels like a nook instead of a spot with a chair. Has anyone else found that lighting direction matters more than the actual lamp price? I'm curious what angle works for you reading at night.

I've noticed the same thing with pretty much every project I take on, the cheap fix or the fancy option hardly ever matters as much as the small details you didn't think about. Like, you can spend a ton on a nice lamp, but if the light bounces off the wall at the wrong spot, it's useless. Once you figure out that one basic angle, everything else just falls into place, same as how a good foundation makes the whole house feel right.
