My mineral collection was all wrong til a stranger on the train told me
Was on the 6 train showing off my Stardew Valley saves to my buddy, talking about how I spent 40 hours in the mines and had like 200 gems. Some lady overheard and said 'you know the museum actually rewards you for donating complete sets, not just random gems.' I had been hoarding everything thinking duplicates were better. Now I actually check what I'm missing before selling and my museum is almost full. Has anyone else played for way too long before realizing you missed something obvious?

I mean it's just a farming sim game though right? Like the museum rewards are fine but you can beat the whole game without ever touching it. I guess if you're a completionist then go nuts but most people aren't gonna notice a difference either way.

Missing one museum item is like leaving money on the table.

My first 50 hours in Stardew I just sold everything because I needed cash for tools. It wasn't until I saw a Reddit post about how the museum rewards are actually good that I stopped and looked up what minerals I was missing. Now I always keep at least one of each new gem before selling the rest.
