Wasted $40 on a fancy coffee bean subscription that was all hype
Signed up for this roaster's monthly box after seeing all the Instagram posts. First bag was okay but the second one tasted like stale burnt popcorn, and I got stuck with 12 ounces I couldn't even finish. Anyone else fall for a subscription that just didn't deliver?

Stick with it for two months then cancel. I did the same thing with a roaster out of Portland. First bag was a nice medium roast. Second bag tasted like I was drinking the bottom of an ashtray. I let them know and they gave me a store credit but I was done.

That "tasted like stale burnt popcorn" part is exactly what I heard from a friend who tried one of those trendy subscriptions too. She said the first bag was fine but by the third month the beans had this weird ashy flavor, like they were roasting way too dark to hide lower quality stuff. I read somewhere that some of these flashy roasters buy in bulk and then the beans sit around for months before they even ship them to you. So it's not just you, basically a lot of these subscriptions are selling the hype and not the actual coffee.
