Found a weird pillow hack at a hotel in Ohio that fixed my neck pain

I was staying at this random motel outside Columbus last month for a work thing... and their pillows were these flat, squishy things I thought I'd hate. But I woke up with zero neck pain for the first time in months. Turns out they were just feather pillows that had been smushed down flat from use. I asked the front desk lady about it and she said they never fluff them, just let guests mash them however they want. So I got home and took all the stuffing out of one of my old bed pillows until it was half as thick... and now I sleep way better. It's like having a custom pillow that actually fits the gap between my shoulder and head. Has anyone else tried de-fluffing a pillow on purpose?

My mom used to steal pillows from fancy hotels in the 90s and I thought she was nuts, but maybe she was onto something. I've been sleeping with a rolled up towel under my neck for years because regular pillows are just too tall for me.

lol wait the towel thing + de-fluffed pillow actually makes sense together. i tried just the towel trick but my neck still hurt til i figured out the fluff thing. now i use a flat pillow with a thin towel rolled under my neck and its literally perfect. nobody talks about how most pillows are just too bouncy for side sleepers.

That towel trick is honestly genius, I need to try it.
