My old instructor in Chicago warned me not to skimp on developer volume for a bleach retouch, and after a client's hair broke off in a $300 service, I wish I'd listened.

Has anyone else had a bad result from not mixing enough developer, or is there a specific brand you trust for tricky color corrections?

My salon in Atlanta had the same rule, a full 60ml of developer for any single process bleach. I once tried to stretch a small tube with less and the color just didn't lift evenly, left a weird band. It's a hard lesson to learn the expensive way.

Why even risk it? That banding is such a nightmare to fix later. I learned that lesson doing my own roots once, trying to be cheap with the developer. Ended up with these weird orange stripes. Now I just use the full amount every time, no questions. It's not worth the extra work to fix a patchy job.

How much did that fix cost you?

Totally get why @the_max had that rule. Skimping on developer just makes the bleach work in weird, patchy ways. You really do need that full bottle for even lift every single time.
