Finally caught a break after 3 straight days of shady flat-rate quotes

Man, I had the weirdest week in my shop. Monday through Wednesday I kept getting calls from people who wanted me to come look at stuff but then ghosted when I gave them a real number. One guy wanted me to rewire his entire basement for 400 bucks and got mad when I laughed. Then on Thursday I get a random call from a lady in Midtown whose breaker panel was buzzing loud enough to hear from the street. I showed up, found a loose main lug that was arcing something nasty, tightened it down, checked her whole setup, and she handed me 150 cash on the spot plus a tip of homemade banana bread. It was like the universe balanced out the nonsense. Has anyone else had a week where the bad jobs just cleared the way for one solid easy fix?

You gotta wonder though, how many of those ghosters actually found someone dumb enough to take the lowball offer. What would you bet that 400 buck basement job ends up being a fire hazard in six months? Or do you think most people just give up when they hear the real price?

Man it’s like the same pattern as everything else these days, everyone wants the cheap option upfront but nobody wants to pay for the quality that actually lasts. That 400 dollar job probably gets done with half the safety stuff skipped, and the next guy ends up paying triple to fix it later.
