Dropped $300 on a home air quality tester and it exposed a mold issue I didn't know I had

I thought my allergies were just bad this spring, but the tester showed spore levels 4 times higher than normal in my basement. Ended up costing me $2,000 to remediate, but my breathing improved within a week. Anyone else found hidden problems after buying one of those gadgets?

...and that's the thing, once you know it's there, you can't un-know it. I bought one of those cheap mold test kits from the hardware store a couple years back, just because my wife kept sneezing in the living room. Turns out we had a slow leak behind the drywall, all the way from the old bathroom pipe. The remediation guys found black mold in places I never would've looked, and honestly, I'm still not sure we got it all.

Nodding hard over here @pat_fisher24 because that feeling of not knowing if you got it all is the worst part. Once that stuff gets in the drywall and framing it just lurks in the back of your mind every time the house settles or smells damp. Really hope for your sake that remediation crew was thorough the first time around, because chasing black mold is a nightmare.

Honestly the thing nobody talks about is what that mold does to your house's resale value down the line. Even if you think you got it all, the second you try to sell that place you gotta disclose it or risk getting sued later. My cousin went through this exact situation and when he finally put his house on the market the buyer's inspection flagged remnants in the attic that the original guys missed. Now he's stuck having to pay for more remediation or drop the price by like 15 grand. It's not just about your health it's about your wallet for years after. Tbh sometimes it's cheaper to just rip out the whole affected wall and start fresh than to keep chasing it.
