Update: The bus driver's choice between a squirrel and a pothole
This morning, our bus driver faced a real choice... a squirrel froze in the middle of the road, and the only other path was a giant pothole. He swerved for the pothole, which made the whole bus bounce like we were on a trampoline. My coffee went everywhere, and the guy next to me yelled, "My back!" The driver just shrugged and said over the speaker, "Sorry folks, I'm not running over a squirrel." Anyone else had a driver make a weird choice to save an animal?

Oh man, that's rough! I'm totally with the driver on saving the squirrel, but you gotta commit to the swerve. A gentle swerve, not a pothole launch. Last year my driver did the same for a duck, but he just eased over a bit and tapped the horn. We barely felt it. It's all about the follow-through.

Did he at least offer to buy everyone new coffee after that trampoline act? I get saving the squirrel but my spine is still paying for his good deed lol. Next time maybe he can just honk instead of choosing the pothole of doom.

Consider the squirrel's point of view, faith_king. That little guy just had the most terrifying Uber ride of his life, zero tip. Your driver basically chose a wildlife documentary stunt over a smooth ride. I'm just picturing the squirrel now, clinging to a tree and telling his squirrel friends about the crazy human who launched him into the next county. Honking would have been a much calmer message for everyone involved.
