PSA: My tire pressure monitor failed during a snowstorm last Tuesday

I was driving home on I-94 in Michigan when the light came on for low pressure. Couldn't find a working air pump at any gas station for 20 miles. Ended up having to pull over and use one of those portable inflators I keep in my trunk, which took forever in the cold. Anyone else carry backup gear that saved them?

Wow, 20 miles without finding a working air pump? That's hard to believe in this day and age. I would've been pretty frustrated myself in that situation.

Used to think people exaggerated about this. Not anymore.

Gas stations should be required to keep that stuff running. Ran into this last month heading to my sister's place. Three stations in a row with busted pumps and taped-up signs.

Seriously though this is part of a bigger problem with stuff just being neglected everywhere lol. It's like companies put in air pumps and vacuums as an afterthought then never maintain them. I notice it at parking lots too where the lighting is busted for months or the pavement is full of potholes. Everyone just accepts it now like that's how it's supposed to be. A few years ago things actually got fixed in a reasonable time but now it feels like businesses just wait until something completely breaks before doing anything. And it's always the basic stuff that makes life easier for people that gets ignored first.
