Why does everyone act like steel hull inspections are safer than aluminum?

I spent 6 months diving on an aluminum boat off the Louisiana coast and saw way less corrosion than any steel hull I worked on up in the North Sea, so why is steel still the go-to for safety talk at every dive meeting?

Yeah but doesn't the galvanic corrosion thing get blown way out of proportion? Aluminum boats seem to hold up fine if you actually maintain the bonding system right.

Is it really that serious when aluminum boats are literally melting in saltwater every day?
