Tried pre-wetting my filter paper differently and it fixed my pour overs in one morning

For like a year I just rinsed the filter once with hot water and called it good. Last week I watched a barista in Portland rinse hers twice with a 15 second pause in between and I figured why not try it. Turns out the first rinse gets the paper taste but the second one actually preheats the dripper properly. My brew time dropped 20 seconds and the coffee tastes way cleaner now. Has anyone else noticed a big difference from something as simple as how you rinse your filter?

You basically discovered that rinsing a coffee filter is a two act play, not a one hit wonder. Here I am thinking I'm a coffee wizard for remembering to turn the kettle on before I grind beans. Next thing you know I'll have to schedule a rinsing interval with a stopwatch like I'm training for the coffee Olympics. Maybe I should start timing my rinses with a sundial for that authentic hipster vibe. At this rate my morning routine is gonna require a project manager.

Did you notice any difference in how the water flowed through the filter during the pour? When I tried the double rinse I found the water would saturate the grounds way more evenly from the start compared to my old single rinse. It felt like the filter was actually absorbing some heat before I even put the coffee in. What kind of dripper are you using?

Nah @kaih36, I never really noticed. Might just be me though.
