TIL a stranger's salt trick for better pour-over coffee

I was at the cafe and a regular told me about his pour-over method. He puts a little salt in the grounds to cut the sour taste. What do you all think of that idea?

That salt trick actually makes sense if you get the amount right. Too much salt and your coffee tastes like the ocean, lol. I've tried it with a tiny pinch, like three grains per cup, and it really smooths out the bitterness. The salt stops some of the bitter taste on your tongue, so you taste more of the coffee's sweet parts. It's a big help for cheap beans that are often sour. Just don't use too much, or you'll need to throw the whole thing out.

But how much salt is a 'little,' like a pinch or just a few grains?

Forget using salt at all because it's a terrible idea that can ruin your machine. You're just covering up bad coffee instead of fixing the real problem, like using better beans or cleaning your grinder. That tiny pinch is impossible to get right every time, and even a little salt builds up and gunks up your equipment. Good coffee doesn't need weird kitchen hacks to taste good, it just needs to be made properly. Throwing salt in feels like a silly trend for people who don't want to learn how to actually brew a decent cup.
