Am I the only one who stirs their coffee the wrong way...

I watched a barista at my local shop last Tuesday really fast with this little spoon and realized I've been stirring in circles all wrong. He told me to slide the spoon back and forth through the middle instead, it mixes the cream way better without splashing. Apparently going in circles just pushes everything to the sides of the cup instead of blending it in... I tried it at home and my last three cups have been way smoother. Has anyone else ever been shown a trick like this that made you feel kinda silly for not knowing it sooner?

Huh, that's wild. I've been stirring in circles my whole life lol. I always thought that was the proper way to mix things up but now I'm rethinking everything. I tried the back and forth thing this morning and my coffee definitely tasted more uniform or whatever. Made me feel kinda dumb for not figuring that out on my own honestly.

Man I felt the exact same way when I learned this about a year ago. I used to stir my coffee in circles every morning and always had a weird clump of sugar at the bottom. @christopher943 once I switched to the back and forth method it was like night and day. The key for me was keeping the spoon flat and moving it in a straight line across the bottom of the mug. Now I mix my oatmeal the same way too and its way more even. Youre definitely not dumb for not knowing this though, its just one of those things nobody ever tells you.
