I finally got my apartment building to start composting

Honestly, it took me 6 months of bugging the property manager in Chicago, but they finally put a bin in the alley last week. Ngl, seeing that first bag of food scraps go in instead of the trash felt like a real win. Anyone else had to push their landlord to make a green change?

My old building in Seattle took almost a year to get a recycling bin. I mean, I had to print out the city rules for multi-family units and bring them to the office three times. It's crazy how much paperwork they need to see sometimes. Just keep showing them it's the normal thing to do now.

That sounds so familiar. I had to do the same thing with my building manager years ago. Bringing the printed rules is the key move, it makes it official. Sometimes they just don't know the city code and hope you'll drop it. Keep a copy of your request and the date you gave it to them. If they stall again, a polite call to the city's waste management office can usually give things a push.

Isn't it wild how many basic things still need a paper trail? It feels like we're stuck in some old system where nothing is real unless it's printed out. I see this with my apartment too, like proving I paid rent or getting a parking pass. They just won't take your word for anything, even for stuff that's supposed to be simple. It makes everything take three times longer than it should.
