Bought an electric car to cut emissions. Found out about lithium mining. Feeling conflicted.

Isn't it strange how fixing one problem just makes another? Electric cars trade oil drilling for lithium mining... So much for easy answers.

It's like we're all just choosing which eco-nightmare to back now. @vera514 nailed it with the trade from oil holes to lithium pits. These cars look good until you see the mining behind them. I guess walking is the true green option, but my knees disagree. The cycle of guilt never ends.

Honestly, lithium mining is a problem but it's way more contained than oil drilling. Tbh, gas cars pump out exhaust every day in our neighborhoods, while lithium is mostly mined in a few remote spots. Electric vehicles stop local air pollution immediately, and battery recycling is already starting up. Ngl, it's not perfect, but switching to electric is a clear move forward from the constant burn of fossil fuels.
