Update: Things were getting pretty tense in our seasonal anime ranking thread, but someone's idea for a 'pros and cons' list per show has totally turned it around (phew!).

Love that method. It cuts right through the fanboy noise and makes people actually talk about the show. Simple fix for a dumb problem.

I used to skip opening acts, but a talk with a fellow fan flipped my whole gig habit.

Seriously, skipping openers is just practical a lot of the time. You're there for the main act anyway, and who wants to sit through a set you don't care about... it can kill the vibe before the show even starts. My time is limited, so showing up late means I avoid the boring parts and save my energy. Honestly, some openers are just filler, and I'd rather miss them than pretend to be into it.

Showerthought: Had to stop a guy at the parts counter from putting gasoline in his diesel truck 'just to see what happens'

That mix also starts separating if it sits too long, lol. So you're dealing with pockets of different volatility in the tank, not just a uniform bad brew.

Unpopular opinion: Ornamental fence toppers are more trouble than they're worth after my squirrel incident.

Seriously, @noahmartin, wire mesh just redirects the problem instead of solving it. Those determined squirrels will just chew into the eaves or attic next. The fancy toppers basically become a welcome sign pointing to your house.

I finally quit bringing prepared notes to book club, and you should too

Last fall, our Denver book club mandated bullet points only, no full scripts. We found that when people came with pre-written essays, the conversation just bounced between monologues without real interaction. Switching to casual talking points let us actually react to each other's insights, like when we debated the morality in 'Americanah' and it got heated in the best way. Now I tell new members to just bring one open-ended question instead of a prepared case. It forces everyone to listen and build on the discussion live, which saved our club from dying out honestly.
